This app explores certain broad aspects of war and peace. Defining the precise nature of both of these frequently used but oft misunderstood terms is exceedingly difficult. Using a growing dataset compiled through reasearch and saved locally to the app in JSON format, the user can explore both war and peace within the following parameters:
- The history of warfare (dates, estimated fatalities, and name of conflict)
This dataset includes 'every' war in history, though this is certainly a debateable point. The data is a work in progress and will continue to evolve with more inclusive information relative to each entry.
- UN Peacekeeping (conflict, operation, countries involved, dates, brief description and link)
Whether peace is an absense or an antonym of war, UN Peacekeeping operations offer a unique model in which to explore the inherent contradiction of peace and peacekeeping. All information is taken directly from the appropriate UN Peacekeeping page.
